Board approves calendar changes

On February 4, 2010, the Bentonville Board of Education approved changes to the 2009-10 school year calendars due to the number of inclement weather days used. Monday, February 15th and Tuesday, February 16th, are now student contact days. All students will attend classes on these dates. February 8 - 12, 2010, will continue to be Intersession Days for Elm Tree and R.E. Baker Elementary Schools.

Daily Announcements

Absence on February 15 or 16  

Students, if you are going to be absent on February 15 or 16 because of a previously scheduled commitment that cannot be changed, you can submit a letter with documentation to your SLC principal asking for a waiver to the exemption policy.  This letter and documentation must be received by March 1 to be considered.

Calling All Used Fiction Books: Come to the eLibrary  

Students, if you would like to donate your favorite books to the eLibrary (N115), we will happily shelve them and share them with others.  You'll be glad to have more shelf space at home, too.  Thanks!

History Club Meeting  

There will be a History Club meeting on Thursday, February 11, at 2:05 in the IMAX room.

Skills USA Competition Meeting  

If you have already signed up for the April competition, please attend a brief meeting on Thursday, 2/11, at 2:30 in room 339.  We will finalize what events people are competing in and hand out permission to travel forms.

Congratulations to BHS All-State Choir members  

BHS placed the highest number of singers in the All-State Choir!  BHS has 30 singers in the honor choirs, the highest number of any in the state.  Congrats to all, a couple high points: Nick Pecoraro-1st chair, Jeff Leyenberger-1st chair.

Congratulations Band Students  

Congratulations to the following band students for being selected to the Arkansas All-State Band:  Melissa Ruiz (3rd band 6th chair Alto Sax); Hana Kawasaki (3rd band 19th chair Clarinet); Ashley Albrecht (2nd band 26th chair Clarinet); James Osthoff (2nd band 5th chair Trumpet); Josh McClellan (1st band 8th chair Percussion); Amber Cooper (1st band 2nd chair Clarinet) 2nd out of the top 144 clarinets in the state trying out. 

FCCLA Week February 8-12  

Power of One, an FCCLA National Program, teaches students to be responsible in family life as well as personal life. This week do something for your family to show responsibilty and celebrate FCCLA Week.

Don't Forget to Pay Junior Dues  

If you are a junior and you have not paid your junior dues, you need to pay Mrs. Pugh by February 26.  Dues go up from $20 to $40 after February 26!  Remember your dues cover your prom ticket for your junior and senior year.  If you are a senior and have NOT paid your junior dues, you must pay them if you want to go to prom.  See Mrs. Pugh in room 315 for questions or to pay your dues.

Spanish Club Meeting  

Spanish Club will meet on Thursday, February 11, at 2:15 in room 2101.  We will make tissue paper crafts from Latin America and plan spring events: parties, charity fundraiser, possible trip, etc.  Be there!

University of Central Arkansas Visit  

A representative from the University of Central Arkansas will be here on Thursday, February 11, during seminar, to talk to students interested in their school.  Stop by the south counseling office and sign up to get a pass to this event.

Arkansas Girls State  

Junior girls interested in attending the Arkansas Girls State on the Harding University Campus May 30 - June 4 should stop by Mr. Runnels' office, 122, to sign up.  To find out more about Girls State go to www.boysandgirlsstate.org

Books2Africa  

Help support the 4th Annual Books2Africa book drive by donating any used or new books you may have.  There will be a box in your English class all week for your donations.  All books are being sent to South Africa. 

FBLA Conference Rescheduled-----AGAIN!!!  

FBLA Competitors:  The Spring District I Conference has been rescheduled a second time due to the snow in Fort Smith.  The conference has been moved to Wednesday, February 17!  All competitors need to confirm with Mrs. Cocanower or Ms. Sooter whether you will be able to attend the conference that day. 

High Schools That Work Assessment  

Students taking the High Schools That Work assessment should report to the lecture hall Tuesday and Wednesday...February 9 and 10.  The assessment will begin at 8:35 and end at approximately 12:30.

BHS Bible Club meeting Wednesday 7:30 a.m. in room 2302  

The BHS Bible Club meets every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in Room 2302.  Everyone is welcome to join us in discussing the Bible.

Congratulations Orchestra Students  

Congratulations to the following orchestra students for being selected to the Arkansas All-State Orchestra: Olivia Steiger (1st violin co-principal), Edrei Cerda, Josh Cabrera, Maria Falcon (1st chair 2nd violin), Ronald Juzeler (1st chair cello), Grant D'Aubin (bass) and Michael Maxwell (bass alternate).

Fashion Show Tickets  

Tickets ($2) will be on sale during all three lunches Wednesday and Thursday in the north commons. Must have a ticket to attend.

HOSA Medical Professions Club  

The love Doctors of HOSA will be selling carnations for Valentines Day on Monday, February 8 - Thursday, February 11.  The carnations will be sold for $2 in the north commons during all 3 lunches every day. Make sure you know your sweetheart's seminar classroom number and seminar teacher's name because the flowers will be delivered there during advisory on Friday.  Only a limited quanity of flowers are available, so don't delay!

Please stop by the eLibrary and sign up to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. 

PSAT Test Results Meeting  

PSAT scores will be given to students on the evening of Tuesday, February 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the AAC to those who took the test in October.  Parents and students are invited to this meeting where questions will be answered concerning the test results.  This is the meeting that was originally scheduled for Thursday, January 28. 

Students in school on February 15 and 16  

The Board of Education voted to change staff development days to student contact days on February 15 and 16 so students will report to school on these two days. 

Summer School - Economics/Civics  

Interested in freeing up room on your schedule next year for classes you REALLY want to take? If so, consider taking the two-week Economics and/or Civics courses offered at various times during the summer. Please see Mr. Miller in room 227 for information about cost and dates and to sign up.

Junior Student and Parent College/Scholarship Meeting  

Juniors--there will be an information session for you and your parents regarding the college and scholarship search on Tuesday, February 9, at 6:00 p.m. in the lecture hall.  If you missed the November meeting, make sure to come to this one.  We will be covering the same information.  Don't miss this chance to find out more information and to get started on the search early!
